Cotcoon is a concept bed for children treated at hospitals. The purpuse of this product is to bring humanitarian policies to pediatric wards in Singapore’s public hospitals, making less traumatic experiences for children. In the hospitals, kids are limited to bed borders within the sharing-ward space, of which their personal spaces are almost like their “bedroom”. The project incorporates a series of installations which aimed at aiding the contact between child and nurse. This makes the bed more comfortable for the patient by using hidden rails mechanism and lightings. The bed is also designed to ease nursery professionals routines, which nurses are prone to develop several health issues due to work duties. Sideguards are redesigned to remove the old cage-like cot by adding extra safety extended rail guards and material usage. The function of the lightings can soothe patients and also allow nurses to attend to them easily at night.
