
Juliet M. Kavishe is an advocate for African design futures, working at the intersection of practice, research, education, and policy. She is the Founder of FORMALL Design Research Lab, a pan-African platform advancing design-led research, archives, and futures thinking grounded in African knowledge systems.
A Professional Interior Architect with over 18 years of experience across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America, Juliet’s work spans high-end residential, commercial, cultural, and museum projects. She is a design educator, global juror, writer, and speaker, and has served in leadership roles including Vice President of the International Council of Design (ICoD), Executive Board Member of the Pan Afrikan Design Institute (PADI) and Director of the African Institute of Interior Designers and Architects (IID)
Juliet is an Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN) Fellow, part of a global community of values-driven leaders committed to addressing complex societal challenges. Her research is practice-led, focused on archiving African spatial knowledge through making, materials, and design action. She was recognised as one of South Africa’s top 100 Design Voices in 2024 and was awarded the AMPS Critical Futures Award in 2025 for her paper on Decolonising Design Perspectives. Juliet’s recognition as a top design voice underscores her influence and strategic vision, and with a global upbringing, her work consistently positions design as a critical cultural, economic, and political tool for Africa’s futures.
