Adela Askandar

Adela Askandar is a seasoned architect and interior designer with 25 years of experience. Trained at the University of Cambridge, she co-founded Studio Bikin Architects, a practice recognized for its innovative and sustainable approach to architecture and design. The firm seamlessly integrates spatial narratives with functionality while fostering community connections. In 2013, Adela and Farah also founded Kedai Bikin, a platform for furniture and interior products designed by them as well as other Malaysian designers and makers.

Adela is passionate about how architecture and design can transform and improve the urban and rural human experience while addressing commercial realities. This passion is reflected in Bikin’s projects, which include remodelling and revitalizing forgotten buildings, as well as new-build residential and leisure, commercial, and residential interiors. She believes in a collaborative approach to achieving
clients’ goals, contributing to a more circular economic practice within the building industry. Adela consults on projects encompassing design-led cultural, community-based and commercial approaches.

Under her leadership, Studio Bikin has garnered recognition for its innovative approach to design and architecture; in 2024 they were awarded by the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers – Interior Designer of the Year as well as Best Interior Design for Else Kuala Lumpur, a hospitality project.

Currently based in Abu Dhabi, Adela enjoys exploring the intricate relationship between art, culture, and urbanism.
