Mervin Tan is the co-founder and Creative Director of PLUS, a multi-award-winning design studio specialising in graphic, experiential, and spatial design. He views design as a vital intersection where art meets science, advocating a systems-thinking approach to solving complex social and spatial challenges through clarity, structure, and intent.
As a Creative Director, Mervin is a key strategist behind nationwide programmes that bridge the gap between people and place. His leadership has defined multidisciplinary experiences such as the launch of the Singapore Tourism Board’s “Passion Made Possible” campaign, and he has served as Festival Director for Singaplural and Re-Route: Little India.
Most recently, and in keeping with his collaborative approach, Mervin has increasingly channelled the studio’s expertise towards large-scale public engagement and district-wide storytelling. This is exemplified in projects such as Re-Route: Orchard (RR:OR), a district-wide living exhibition that re-examines Singapore’s iconic shopping belt through creative intervention and placemaking. Furthermore, he creatively directed public awareness campaigns like Life Supermart, which transformed complex, heavy subject matter into a relatable, everyday experience.
Through these initiatives, Mervin continues to explore how design can serve as a medium to translate intricate narratives into tangible, human-centric experiences that resonate deeply with the community.
