Prof. Yen Ching Chiuan holds the position of Dean’s Chair at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and serves as an Associate Professor in the Division of Industrial Design (DID). In addition, he is the Director of NUS CUTE Center and Co-Director of AM.NUS (NUS Centre for Additive Manufacturing) and the Founding Head of DID.
Prof Yen possesses exceptional skills in integrating theoretical thinking with practical design applications in design education and research. His research interests lie in design methodologies, and he advocates for a “pluralistic dimension” in design study and research, especially in the field of healthcare and interaction design. He has collaborated with renowned companies such as ABBOT, BMW Designwork USA, Coca-Cola, DELL, Estee Lauder, NUH, P&G, Samsung, Swarovski, SCDF, Tupperware, VISA, and Wildlife Reserves Singapore, among others. His team has filed over 20 patents at NUS, and more than ten innovations/ technologies have been licensed or adopted by industries.
Ching Chiuan’s supervision in design is highly esteemed, having received over 60 prestigious international or regional design awards, including the Stanford Longevity Technology Prize 2015, Braunprize 2007, Luminary Award, red-dot award: design concept 2006, ACM CHI Student Competition 2016, and James Dyson Award (Singapore) 2023.
