Sonny Chionh is an Executive Director at RSP Architects Planners & Engineers, a global multidisciplinary architectural and engineering design group. Sonny boasts over 25 years of architectural project experience, specializing in the design, coordination, and implementation of large and medium-sized projects spanning across education, healthcare, residential, civic, hospitality, offices, and retail sectors.
With a plethora of notable award-winning projects such as Westgate, Funan, Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay, and the rejuvenation of Grand Park City Hall Hotel, Sonny is keenly attuned to the diverse requirements of projects and adept at integrating users’ needs with site context.
Passionate about driving sustainability in the built environment, Sonny focuses particularly on mitigating the significant contributors to carbon emissions, namely energy consumption and embodied energy. At the industry level, he actively contributes to various committees including the Singapore Green Building Council Board, Singapore Institute of Architects Sustainability Committee, Singapore Green Building Council Technical Committee, and the Singapore Standards SS485 Work Group, aiming to enhance capabilities and awareness. In building design, he advocates for sustainability by promoting smart energy usage, embodied energy reduction and maximizing material reuse while maintaining practicality.
Sonny believes in the unconditional sharing of knowledge within the industry, so that the industry, as a collective, continues to build from strength to strength. He frequently imparts his experience and expertise on sustainability and universal design at various industry forums.
Additionally, as RSP’s Quality & Environmental Manager, Sonny is dedicated to driving ISO standards and best practices for quality and environmental approaches within the firm. He is a Registered Architect with the Board of Architects in Singapore and a member of the Singapore Institute of Architects.
