Alvin is a practitioner with over 10 years’ experience in defining, designing and developing systems and services that connect with people in relevant, useful and engaging ways. Experiences include defence and security, healthcare, transport, retail and creative domains.
He currently leads a multidisciplinary group of designers, researchers and technologists to drive Design Innovation and User Experience (UX) practices in DSTA, putting in place systems, processes and defining cultures that facilitate innovative thought and the delivery of impactful solutions for SAF and the wider whole-of-government. A hands on designer, he is as comfortable training or conducting workshops for large groups of people as he is behind a sketchpad.
He specialises in thinking creatively and strategically to design solutions that meet user needs while satisfying business objectives, managing complex engagements, building user relationships, driving capability development and growing internal talent. His specialties include design innovation, user experience design, user interface design and agile development. He holds an MSc in Human-Computer Interaction and is both a Certified Nielsen Norman Master UX Specialist and Certified Scrum Master.
Outside of DSTA, he is also UXD instructor at General Assembly alongside a global network of expert UX trainers. He currently sits on the Executive Committee of the Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS). To connect outside of work, he can be found on Instagram as @lohver.
